Kyrie Irving and Paige Bueckers share a special moment on the sidelines
The fans turned into a frenzy when Cooper Flagg took the floor for his first preseason game. The young forward finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists, helping the Dallas Mavericks secure a win. However, another moment stole the spotlight during a timeout when Paige Bueckers and Kyrie Irving met on the sidelines.
Bueckers, a longtime admirer of Kyrie, looked thrilled to chat with her idol, and the duo shared smiles during an animated conversation. Notably, it was a full-circle moment for the 23-year-old WNBA star, who has often spoken about honing her game in accordance with Irving’s style and work ethic.
Earlier this season, Irving had also attended a Dallas Wings game against the Indiana Fever, where he briefly met Bueckers on the courtside.
Kyrie Irving reflects on his ACL injury recovery and Future Plans
Kyrie Irving is currently recovering from an ACL injury, which he suffered in March. Though his rehab is progressing, he made it clear that he is not rushing a return.
Talking about his comeback, Irving said, “There’s no timetable for when I’m coming back, so please don’t ask me when I’m coming back. Please don’t badger me with all the questions like, ‘Hey, if you’re healthy by November, what do you think about it?’…I’m going to be ready when I’m ready. I’m taking the necessary steps to put my best foot forward, and I’m enjoying it.”
He added, “I appreciate you guys being there to support me during my kind of down times, when I was dealing with my ACL and dealing with not necessarily knowing, okay, whether or not I’m going to be back to where I was at. And of course, there was doubt. Naturally, I have doubt like everyone else.”
The Dallas Mavericks will miss Irving’s leadership for now; however, his presence on the courtside will surely inspire young players like Cooper Flagg and fans like Paige Bueckers.
