Rasmus Hojlund is on the brink of a Manchester United exit, with Napoli poised to secure his services after a convincing phone call from ex-teammate Scott McTominay. The Italian champions are set to bring in the Danish international on loan, with a compulsory purchase clause included in the deal.
Hojlund has been absent from Ruben Amorim's matchday squads this season as the club prepared to offload him. Despite United bolstering their attacking options, the 22-year-old forward was keen to battle for his spot at Old Trafford. However, Corriere dello Sport reports that a quick chat with current Napoli star McTominay - who departed United in 2024 - has convinced Hojlund to leave Manchester behind. The report claims that McTominay's phone call to the Dane is "likely a decisive step towards a definitive yes" for the star and has pushed the deal to almost 100% completion.
The Red Devils have splurged £200million on Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo and are now aiming to recoup some funds. Sky Sports reveals that Napoli have agreed to a deal that will see United pocket a substantial fee next summer.
Napoli are prepared to shell out a £5m loan fee for Hojlund, as part of a total package that could see United rake in over £43m. The Serie A champions would only be obliged to pay £38m if they secure a Champions League berth.
Hojlund, who moved to United for £72m from Atalanta and signed a five-year contract, has struggled to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. The striker scored 14 Premier League goals in 62 outings, which is nowhere near enough for the English giant's first attacking option.

However, the deal hinges on Hojlund agreeing to personal terms with Napoli. But if the young striker follows in the footsteps of McTominay, the duo could be reunited with each other.
The United outgoings to Italy might not stop there, though. Kobbie Mainoo is also pushing for a departure and would be prepared to join Antonio Conte's outfit on a permanent basis.

So far, the Red Devils are reluctant to approve a transfer, whether it be permanent or on loan. Mainoo though, has failed to feature for a single minute in the Premier League this campaign.
When quizzed about potential departures for Hojlund, Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho's switch to Chelsea, Amorim clarified his position on the United midfielder.
"Until it's official, I cannot say much," he said.
"I want Kobbie to say. He needs to fight for his place and we need Kobbie. That's not going to change.
"I understand the players not playing in this moment are disappointed. Everyone will have the same opportunity to play. You have to fight."
