Belgium has closed its airspace after drone sightings, sparking travel chaos at major airports, including the capital Brussels.

Air traffic at Brussels Airport was suspended as a security measure following the sighting shortly before 8pm, as confirmed by Belgian air traffic control authority Skeyes. Spokesperson Kurt Verwilligen said, "As a precaution, all air traffic was temporarily suspended," reports Belgian publication, RTBF. It is not yet possible to estimate how long the airport will remain closed.

Liège Airport has also reported drones and flight diversions. "All Belgian airspace is closed," announced Liège Airport spokesperson Christian Delcourt. Liège Airport has reportedly activated its internal crisis centre.
