The dream run of Preity Zinta-owned St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 came to a disappointing end as they failed in both opportunities to secure a spot in the final. In Qualifier 2 at Providence Stadium, the Trinbago Knight Riders outplayed them by 56 runs to book their place in the championship clash.

St. Lucia Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Trinbago’s batting firepower proved too strong. Despite an early setback with Colin Munro’s dismissal for just 6, Nicholas Pooran steadied the innings with a blazing 50 off 32 balls, including five boundaries and four sixes. Alex Hales also shone with a solid 58, while skipper Kieron Pollard added 35 runs with four sixes to his name. In the final overs, Andre Russell smashed 28 off just 12 deliveries before being run out, powering Trinbago to 194/4 in 20 overs.

For the Kings, Roston Chase was the most economical, taking 1 for 16 in his three overs. Alzarri Joseph and Khary Pierre picked up a wicket each, while David Wiese had a forgettable outing, conceding 42 runs in just two overs.

Kings falter in the chase
Chasing a daunting target, St. Lucia Kings struggled to build partnerships. Opener Johnson Charles managed 17 from 24 balls, while Tim David chipped in with 28. The lone standout was Tim Seifert, who scored a fighting 57 off 40 balls with eight fours and a six. However, the lack of support from the rest meant the Kings were restricted to 138/8 in 20 overs, falling well short of the target.
