Bollywood's Khiladi Kumar, Akshay Kumar, has enjoyed a long career filled with hits, but even top stars face failures. One such flop in Akshay’s filmography is the 2022 release ‘Raksha Bandhan’, which couldn’t even recover its production cost.
A Sentimental Film That Didn’t ClickReleased on Raksha Bandhan in 2022, the film centered on the emotional bond between a brother and his sisters. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the movie featured Bhumi Pednekar opposite Akshay, with Sadia Khatib, Sahajmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, and Smriti Srikant as his sisters.
Despite its emotional theme, the film didn’t resonate with the audience and underperformed badly at the box office.
Budget vs Collection: A Major LossMade on a budget of ₹70 crore, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ managed to collect only ₹48.63 crore in India. Even after including its worldwide earnings, the total stood at just ₹68.38 crore—failing to meet its cost.
This made ‘Raksha Bandhan’ one of Akshay’s most notable flops in recent years, especially during a time when he was releasing multiple films each year.
What’s Next for Akshay? After ‘Sky Force’, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’, and ‘Housefull 5’, Akshay Kumar is set to appear in two more films this year:
-
‘Jolly LLB 3’
-
‘Welcome to the Jungle’
