King Charles made a heartbreaking three-word comment as he hit a significant milestone in his career. Charles was proclaimed king by the Accession Council three years ago today (September 10), two days after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96. He was 73 at the time.
Since then, His Majesty has spent his time on the throne championing causes such as the environment, healthcare, the arts and education, alongside his wife, Queen Camilla. He pledged his dedication to the people and causes he serves in an address to the nation as he came to power following his mother's passing, taking a leaf out of her book.
Speaking to the British public on that day, Charles said: "I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow."

Charles left people heartbroken when they heard how he referred to the late queen, describing her as "my beloved mother."
"Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example," he continued.
"Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing.
"That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today."
The King went on to acknowledge the 'personal grief' his family were experiencing, as well as the grief and 'deep sense of gratitude' felt by "so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where The Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world."
He continued: "In 1947, on her twenty-first birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples.
"That was more than a promise: it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life.
"She made sacrifices for duty.
"Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never wavered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss."
While Charles was made king in September 2022, his coronation didn't take place until May 6, 2023.
The Anglican ceremony took place in London's Westminster Abbey, before members of the Royal Family travelled to Buckingham Palace in a state procession.
There, they appeared on the palace's balconies.
A staggering 20.4million people are thought to have tuned in in the UK, while across the world, an estimated two billion people watched the service from their TVs at home.
