Ethan Hawke made a joke about the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he crashed the show during the hostJimmy Kimmel'sopening monologue. There was a huge uproar among fans, celebrities and politicians when his late-night show was axed after he made a comment regarding podcaster Charlie Kirk's death.

The backlash was immediate as major ABC affiliate groups, Sinclair and Nexstar, dropped Kimmel from broadcast "indefinitely," with US President Donald Trump also lashing out at the star, calling him 'untalented'. Despite the uproar from Republicans, Kimmel made his triumphant return to his slot on Tuesday night.

With the late-night show back in business, Jimmy wasted no time with inviting A-list guests on to the famous stage.

During his monologue on Wednesday, Ethan crashed the stage for a skit about the fact he never signed the American Civil Liberties Union letter slamming the show’s suspension.

Jimmy was thanking the signatories, which included Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, telling viewers: "I also want to thank the more than 400 entertainers, actors, writers, directors, producers who all signed a letter from the ACLU in support of our show."

Ethan, who was a guest on the episode, suddenly appeared to say: "I know I’m not supposed to be out here yet. I heard you talking about the letter of endorsement. I want to let you know right here, man-to-man, face-to-face, what an honor it was to sign this letter."

The duo shook hands, but Jimmy double-checked the letter and realised Ethan's name wasn't on the list. They didn't explain why Ethan's name wasn't on the list.

“I think I signed it twice, man… Dude, I signed it. I know I signed it,” the Black Phone actor said before distracting Jimmy long enough to sign his name.

US President Donald Trump was furious with the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and even went as far as to call ABC "a true bunch of losers" before implying he was preparing to go "after them" and sue the broadcaster.

"I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back," Trump said on his Truth Social platform. "The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his 'talent' was never there.

"Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE."

His post continued: "He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution.

"I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings."
