The level of heat is increasing every year, due to which the sale of AC is also increasing. Now recently a media report has revealed that 84 lakh air conditioners were sold in 2021-22, which increased to 1.1 crore in 2023-24. This is the reason that due to the rapidly increasing demand for cooling, the pressure on the power grid and power consumption is increasing every year. The government is working on the PM Modi AC Yojana scheme to deal with this challenge.
This way you will save money
The purpose of this new scheme is that people should replace their old and power-consuming ACs with 5-star rated models. Doing this will also benefit people, 5-star rated ACs will reduce electricity consumption every month which will also reduce the electricity bill. Not only the electricity bill but the pressure on the power grid will also be reduced.
According to the report of The Business Standard, this scheme is being prepared by the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The aim of this scheme is to coincide with long term plans like India Cooling Action Plan. There is also talk of giving many benefits to the people under this scheme so that more and more people can take advantage of this scheme.
This is how you will benefit
- Return the AC to the recycler: Deposit the old air conditioner at a certified recycling center and get a discount on the purchase of a new AC by getting the certificate.
- Benefit of discount: Big brands like Blue Star, Voltas, LG can give the benefit of discount to the customers on buying a new AC in exchange of old AC.
- Benefit of discount in electricity bill: In collaboration with electricity distribution companies, the government is considering giving discount in electricity bill to the customers buying new AC.
According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, replacing an old AC with a 5 star rating can save Rs 6300 in electricity bill on an annual basis. This will not only reduce the burden on people's pockets but can also reduce the pressure on the power grid.
BSES Delhi AC Replacement SchemeSuch a scheme is already running for the people living in Delhi. BSES is running a scheme under which people can avail a discount of up to 60% on the new AC when they buy a new 5 star rated AC after giving away their old 3 star rated AC.
