Pre-Karwa Chauth Diet Tips: This year, the festival of Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 10th. On this day, women observe a waterless fast for the long life and happiness of their husbands. After performing puja at night, the fast is completed by breaking the fast. Fasting without food and water throughout the day can leave many women feeling weak and unwell. Therefore, consuming certain foods a day before the fast and during the Sargi is beneficial. If preparations for Karwa Chauth are started a day in advance, women can complete the waterless fast without any problems on the day of the festival.

Poonam Duneja, Senior Dietitian at PSRI Hospital, Delhi, explains that it is crucial to follow a proper diet a day before Karwa Chauth to reduce hunger and thirst during the fast and maintain energy. All women should avoid fried, deep-fried, spicy, and junk foods for a day before the fast. Eating these foods increases thirst and puts the digestive system under pressure. Instead, one should consume dal, vegetables, roti, khichdi, kheer, yogurt, buttermilk, and coconut water. Additionally, one should drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration during the fast. Consuming fruits also helps replenish water and improve hydration.
The dietitian explained that the Sargi time on Karva Chauth is between 4 and 6 a.m. The fast begins with the Sargi ritual. Women can consume fruits, yogurt, buttermilk, coconut water, and dates during the Sargi. This will provide them with the energy and nutrients they need for the day. Water-rich foods like watermelon and cucumber should be consumed during the Sargi, and bananas should be avoided. Women should increase their water intake a day before Karva Chauth and ensure they drink water during the Sargi. This will prevent dehydration during the fast and maintain a healthy electrolyte balance.

Experts recommend that pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and those with diabetes or other medical conditions avoid fasting on Karva Chauth. If anyone must observe the fast, they should consult a doctor before doing so. Women with underlying medical conditions may experience health problems if they observe a waterless fast. Therefore, experts advise against fasting. Keep in mind that along with religious faith, it's crucial to take care of your health. Otherwise, the festival may be marred by disillusionment.
