Lucknow Super Giants put on a complete performance with the bat and the ball to beat table toppers Gujarat Titans by 33 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Chasing 236 runs to win, GT batters were up for the task with starts for each of the top four. Sai Sudharsan scored 21 runs, while skipper Shubman Gill scored a brisk 35 runs off 20 balls. Jos Buttler scored 33 runs off 18 balls and Sherfane Rutherford managed to get 38 runs off 22 balls. However, none of the them went on to get a big score which was needed while chasing the mammoth total. Shahrukh Khan kept the hopes alive with 57 runs off just 29 balls, including five fours and three sixes. The hosts collapsed once Rutherford fell and eventually fell well short of the target.
For LSG, replacement bowler William O'Rourke picked up three crucial wickets and conceded just 27 runs in his four overs. Avesh Khan picked up two wickets, while Ayush Badoni, bowling the final over of the innings picked up two wickets as GT finished at 202/9 in 20 overs.
Earlier, Mitchell Marsh smashed a stunning century to set up LSG's massive total. He scored 117 runs off 64 balls with 10 fours and eight sixes. Aiden Markram provided a good start once again with 36 runs off 24 balls. Nicholas Pooran carried the momentum with an unbeaten knock of 56 runs off just 27 balls, including four fours and five sixes.
All the GT bowlers struggled as they leaked runs and failed to pick any wickets. Only Arshad Khan and Sai Kishore managed to taste success with a wicket each.
GT next face Chennai Super Kings on May 25, while LSG will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27.
